The Sudetes are a range of mountains which run for 300 km forming a long curve along the southwest border between Poland and Czech Republic. The name Sudetes comes from the 12 th century. It first appeared on the maps in the 15 th century.
The Giant Mountains (in Polish: Karkonosze) form the highest range of the Sudetes. Since the earliest times they formed a natural border between Poland and Czech Republic. The Giant Mountains belong to the oldest mountains of Europe.
